The name "JM's" tells a story common to many Irish families in the 1800's. Barney O'Hare was a stone mason in a small town called Glen in Co. Down. There were many families with the name O'Hare living in the area, and as was the usual tradition in Ireland at that time, each family was given a nickname to tell them apart. As Barney was a stone mason by trade his clan were called the masons. In 1908 Barney and his wife Elizabeth welcomed a son called John to the family. Johnny Mason, as he was known, worked hard all his life and married Mary in 1949, they went on to have a large family. In tribute and remembrance to their father and grandfather before them, the family named this bar & restaurant "Johnny Mason's".

This is probably one of the oldest traditional pubs in Co.Louth. it is also probably one of the smallest! it has been in the same family for five generations! despite its size it offers a very warm welcome and plenty of good conversation. there is also a small function room which accomodates small parties.
