Newly renovated, The South County has the feel of a real Irish pub with old world atmosphere. The pub features live Irish music sessions four nights a week throughout the year. A new feature of the pub is a really great outdoor space with T.V.s and open fires. Home cooked lunches and great value evening meals are also on offer Monday to Friday. The South County has recently been approved under Ireland's first National Pub Accredtation scheme aimed at ensuring quality Irish pubs are recognised and promoted both at home and abroad (in conjunction with Fáilte Ireland).
The motto of the pub is Bia, deoch, ceol agus caint which means Food, drinks, music and conversation ..... and that's what the South County is all about!
Located in the heart of Douglas village a busy shopping suburb of Cork. The South County is owned and operated by two brothers, Tom & Colm O'Connor. This pub has been in the O'Connor family since the early 1970's. The O'Connors put a big emphasis on service and comfort. The bar is a real example of a traditional style pub with dark wood, open fires, nooks and crannies and a snug to hideaway in and enjoy some food or one of their famous Irish coffees. The South County is also a member of the 'Irish Whiskey Trail' and features an extensive range of Irish whiskies in the Whiskey corner. This pub has a famous outdoor space "The Guinness Beer Garden". This area is heated, has real open fires every evening, background music and even a couple of big screens to watch your favourite sport. It is ideal for smokers and drinkers alike.
Throughout the year the South County has its lively Irish music sessions, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights and a singalong ballad session on Sunday evenings.
Food is served Monday to Friday from 10am to 7.30pm and a bar menu is offered on Saturdays at lunchtime. As well as lunch and dinner menus, great value daily specials featuring locally sourced ingredients are also offered to guests at the pub.
The pub also has a number of areas suitable for special events. For birthday parties, corporate functions, christenings and even weddings, areas to suit 25 to 100 can be reserved for you and your guests.
