Callans is a thriving family-run bar and restaurant with a long-standing reputation for good music and loyal customers. This Irish pub gives a homely relaxed feeling to all those who visit.
In 2003 the bar underwent a major transformation, which saw the establishment of the renowned restaurant that succeeds in drawing customers from far and near. The decor is a blend of natural stone and beautifully carved wood, which adds to the homely feel.

The customers of Callans vary from young to old and the location straddles both the Monaghan and Armagh borders. Our first customers still drink in the pub and some of the locals say it's "home from home."
We are located on the N53, approximately 10 kilometres from Dundalk and 18 kilometres from Castleblaney.
Restaurant: Our restaurant caters for parties for all occasions for up to 150 people. We've had christenings, confirmations, football celebrations, Christmas and birthday parties - Why not have your celebrations with us? Party menus available on request.
Bed & Breakfast: Callans' B&B service consists of 5 en-suite rooms with all mod cons. Each of the spacious rooms is decorated to perfection and with a catering service and refreshments available downstairs, you will not be disappointed.
Courtesy Bus: Our courtesy bus is available for all our patrons to get home safely. We can collect parties from 8-11 people and we'll leave you home too.
Patrick Kavannagh Country
Located approximately 5 kilometres from Callans is the heartland of Patrick Kavanagh Country. A world-renowned poet, Kavanagh was born and grew up in the neighbouring parish of Inniskeen. The rolling hills and drumlins of this little townland remain largely untouched since his generation and proved to be an inspiration to the Monaghan poet.
Immerse yourself in Kavanagh's homeland. Read his writings, listen to anecdotes, recite his poems, experience his upbringing, visit his home and pay respect at his graveside.
Dundalk Race Track

Ireland's first all-weather racecourse is situated approximately 10 kilometres from Callans. Built on the outskirts of Dundalk town centre, Dundalk Stadium boasts the most modern racing track for both the horse and dog kinds. The floodlit facilities were proudly opened in August 2007 making Dundalk Stadium the only floodlit racing facility for both codes in the country.
With an extension to the grandstand, new ambulance roads, a weigh room, stable yard to cater for 130 horses, a parade rig and a new bookmakers ring, Dundalk Stadium truly is the place to be for a great night's entertainment an fun.
Roche, Hackballscrosss, Dundalk, Co. Louth
This towering castle is among the most spectular in Ireland and still stands to this day in the neighbouring parish of Roche, less than a 5 minute drive from Callans. Situated upon a rocky hilltop this Norman castle dating from the 13th Century was originally known as ‘Castlellum de Rupe' or de la Roche. It was formerly a frontier castle for the Pale and served as a controlling point for those traveling to nearby Armagh.
Visitors to the castle will not be disappointed, but one must take not of the ghost that lies within!

Situated in neighbouring Co. Monaghan, this beautifully maintained golf course (Par 70) is a sight to behold. Well kept grounds and aesthetically pleasing fauna, this is a challenging golf course with water coming into play on 9 of the 18 holes. With a river meandering through the course and the backdrop of an old wheel attracting the eye, this dainty golf course really is a spectacular sight. Beware of the driver, as the out of bounds markings are unforgiving!

Located less than 5 minutes drive from Callans is this rolling, mature (Par 69) course for all golf lovers. Killin Park is a challenging course, which also demands accuracy and control of shots. With scenic views of the Cooley Mountains to behold, this course provides a unique blend of woodland, water features (the Castletown River also runs through it) and undulating hills.
