About Us

The ‘Ilen Bar’, with its relaxed ambience, old-world leather seating, and highly professional bar staff offers visitors and locals alike the perfect place to catch up, and switch off.
A popular Bar Menu features many local delicacies (e.g. Union Hall Seafood Chowder, selection of Gubeen Cheeses) and is served daily, from 10:00 to 21:00.

The bar staff – a font of local knowledge - will happily organise picnic baskets for those wishing to make day-trips to any of the region's myriad  attractions. Or, for those who wish to do nothing more than sit and read, they can advise on the best bookshops in town.

The Hotel’s Kennedy's Restaurant offers a carvery lunch by day, as well as full á la carte menu by night. A newly revamped wine list has added to the Restaurant’s popularity: It is now advisable, especially at weekends, to make a reservation.
The fare here focuses on locally-caught seafood, on the best of locally-sourced, seasonal game, and on the finest of local herbs and organic vegetables.

House specialities include Bantry Bay Mussels, and Castletownbere Crab and Salmon cake.
As Dean Diplock, Head Chef, explains: “Our ambition is to serve simple, consistently memorable, mouthwatering food. Our secret? We let the local ingredients speak for themselves…”

The West Cork Hotel, Skibbereen offers the discerning visitor the best of both worlds:

  • The tranquility of rural, riverside accommodation;
  • And the laid-back charm of one of the region’s most colorful market-towns.

The Hotel offers 34 en-suite rooms which can satisfy a diverse range of accommodation and budgetary requirements. All rooms are luxuriously appointed; the majority take full advantage of views over the beautiful River Ilen. All are equipped with tea- and coffee- making facilities as well as cable tv and direct dial telephone. All are spacious, peaceful, and calming. And yet, because of its central location, The West Cork Hotel is ideally placed to exploit all that beautiful Skibbereen (Sciobairin; ‘little boat harbour’) offers: award-winning seafood restaurants, lively traditional music pubs, a French chocolatier, bustling farmers' markets.

An ideal base for those wishing to explore what is, arguably, Ireland’s most scenic and unspoilt coastline, The West Cork Hotel has established a reputation for excellence with, among others,  couples on romantic getaways, families who want to have fun, wedding planners, conference organizers….In short, anyone wanting a comfortable, friendly, affordable destination which successfully mixes the best of old and new

Local Attractions

Take your pick from the delightful choice of fishing villages. Fashionable Baltimore is the gateway to Shrkin Island and Cape Clear.

Don't miss the castle home of the Townshend family, suprisingly at Castletownshend, the village which provided inspiration for writers Somerville and Ross (and favourite spot of BBC Newsnight presenter Jeremy Paxman).

Glandore and Union Hall sit opposite each other across the estuary and both are equally quaint with great pubs and restaurants usually with sea views (all between 5km and 15km from Skibbereen).
