About Us

Welcome to The Corner House, one of the finest of old traditional Irish pubs and one of the best known pubs in County Cork. Recommended by Georgina Campbell's Ireland 2010 The Guide

The Corner House is a traditional West Cork Bar, virtually unchanged in over 100 years. Established in the late 19th Century, T. J. Newman’s is a fixture on the Schull landscape. Occupying the western corner of Main Street and Pier Road it has been a favourite of visitors to Schull for decades whether they arrive by road or sea. Owned by Bridie & John D’Alton since 2003, the Corner House is still a safe harbour for those seeking sanctuary, be it from the sun or the rain.

A traditional West Cork welcome awaits you in this haven of Irish hospitality.

The Corner House is everything the traditional Irish pub should be. Small, cosy and friendly with a welcome from staff and customers alike.

A favourite for those who like to socialise in traditional surroundings, The Corner House is also a popular venue for sing-songs, impromptu trad. sessions, late night discos and the occasional operatic aria.

By popular acclaim, we serve the best pints, not only in Schull, but in all of Cork. We know what our customers like and we know how to serve it to them.

"Wonderful Pint Wonderful Pub"

Had the opportunity of having a pint at T J Newmans Corner House last week (July 2013) whilst on hols in West Cork. The pint - (Guinness naturally) was perfect - and the pub fabulous. Both Bridie and John were working so the visitor has the benefit of a warm and friendly welcome from Bridie and the opportunity to strike up an intellectual or indeed controversial debate with John. In this house - the customer is king. Bridie and John run a top class establishment. Whilst we were there - a nice mix of local and visitors popped in for a break. Right next door - is TJ Newmans highly acclaimed cafe/restaurant. We didn't have time to dine -but the locals assured us that the food is delicious. John equally assured us that the pub is a pub...not one of these new fangled gourmet bars! If you want to eat - you are welcome next door. If its a chat and a beverage you want - come into the bar. I think TJ Newmans is as pure a pub experience as I've had in recent years. Nothing to distract from the pint and the chat - except a brochure for the local Calves Festival and a booklet promoting other businesses in the town. I'll be back here - and looking forward to it already.
