The text lines are only open 24 hours and already the competition is hotting up with well over 300 votes already cast!!!! In conjunction with Newstalk 106-108fm and for the second year running you can vote for your Best Local by texting the pub name, address & province (Ulster, Munster, Leinster, Connaught) to 53106 (texts cost 30c).
Tune in to Moncrieff every day between 2.00pm and 4.30pm for daily updates.
Vote for your Best Local and be in with a chance to win a weekend break in a Flynn Hotel.

Here we go again! After the success of last year's competition the Newstalk Best Local is back and Sean Moncrieff and his team launched the competition live from The Stray Sod, Drumauna, Drung, Co Cavan last Friday. Already the texts have started but lines don't officially open until July 19th.........so don't miss out...text your favourite VFI pub to 53106 from the 19th onwards - and make sure you include the address of the pub - don't want a pub of the same name getting your votes!

Trocaire and Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann have come together to run a ‘Trad for Trocaire’, a new national fundraising initiative geared towards raising funds for Trocaire. It is intended that this will run for a week from September 23rd to 29th and musicians are encouraged to hold traditional Irish music sessions in pubs and other venues around the country.

The Vintners' Federation of Ireland ("VFI") Stars of our Bars National Final, in association with Smithwick's, was held on Saturday night and Shona Lanigan, representing The Kilford Arms, Kilkenny, was named the VFI Stars of our Bars Winner 2010, beating off 11 other acts to take the title.
